Canonical definition
The IBQMI® EDI Foundation Certification™ is a free, participation-based certification in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). It documents that a participant has worked through the official IBQMI® EDI training material and confirmed engagement with it through a short set of verification questions.
Scope of the material
The training material covers six areas: the foundations of equality, diversity and inclusion; EDI in the workplace; respectful conduct in practice; legal and ethical awareness, including equal employment opportunity; recognizing bias and stereotypes; and contributing to an inclusive culture.
Use in workforce onboarding
The certification is designed for workforce onboarding. Instead of signing a self-declaration, new employees complete the same structured process, and the participation certificate documents completion for internal records. Professionals can also use the certificate for applications and professional profiles.
Format
There is no fee for participants or employers. The training material, the verification and the digital participation certificate are included. The verification questions can be repeated without limit, because the aim is documented understanding rather than examination pressure. The credential does not expire.
Relationship to the Sustainable Development Goals
The certification is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). An IBQMI® commitment is registered on the SDG Actions Platform of the United Nations (SDG Action #43503); see IBQMI® on the UN DESA SDG Partnerships Platform.
Institutional context
The certification belongs to the IBQMI® certification model and is a free entry point alongside the professional credentials listed under IBQMI® certification pathways. Certificates can be checked through IBQMI® credential verification. The certification is issued by IBQMI®.
What the certification does not mean
It is not a competency examination, a professional licence or an assessment of an organization’s EDI practices, and it is not a certification by the United Nations.
