How does the IBQMI® certification model work?

Canonical definition

The IBQMI® certification model is an institutionally governed system connecting professional standards and frameworks, bodies of knowledge, learning and preparation routes, assessment requirements, credential issuance and digital verification.

The model begins with the professional system defined and maintained by IBQMI. The professional credential is a downstream result of that system.

The institution responsible for the certification model is International Business and Quality Management Institute LLC, publicly operating as IBQMI®.

The professional system comes before the credential

IBQMI certification does not begin with the creation of a certificate document.

It begins with the definition of the professional domain, its framework or standard, its body of knowledge, its capability requirements and the assessment structure used to verify those requirements.

These foundations are governed through the IBQMI standards and frameworks system.

The credential is issued only after the applicable professional requirements have been satisfied.

Components of the certification model

Learning is not the same as certification

Learning and preparation support the development of professional knowledge. Certification verifies and records that the applicable credential requirements have been satisfied.

Course participation or access to learning materials does not by itself constitute certification.

A candidate becomes certified only after completing the requirements of the relevant professional pathway and receiving the credential from IBQMI.

Assessment authority

IBQMI defines the assessment structure connected to each professional credential within its portfolio.

Assessment authority includes responsibility for determining what is assessed, how applicable requirements are represented and under which conditions a professional credential may be awarded.

Learning delivery may support preparation, but it does not replace IBQMI as the assessment authority.

Credential issuance

IBQMI is the issuer of the professional credentials and protected professional titles within its certification portfolio.

Credential issuance occurs after the applicable requirements have been satisfied and the result has been recorded within the IBQMI credentialing system.

The credential identifies the professional recognition awarded to the individual. The accompanying certificate documents that award.

Credential and certificate document

A professional credential and a certificate document are closely connected, but they are not identical.

The credential is the professional recognition and title awarded by IBQMI. The certificate is the issued document that records the holder, credential and issuing institution.

The institutional meaning of the credential therefore comes from the standards, assessment and issuing authority behind it, not merely from the existence of a downloadable document.

Digital credential verification

Issued IBQMI credentials remain connected to the institution through a digital verification system.

Verification allows a credential record to be checked against the issuing authority rather than relying only on an independently presented certificate file.

The verification function is documented through the IBQMI credential verification system.

Certification pathways

Certification pathways provide the structured routes through which candidates access a professional domain, prepare for its requirements and complete the applicable assessment process.

Different professional fields may use different bodies of knowledge, learning structures and assessment requirements while remaining governed by the same institutional certification model.

Direct learning and authorized training partners

Learning and preparation may be provided directly by IBQMI or supported by authorized training partners, including IBQMI ATP® organizations.

An authorized training partner may support instruction, preparation and professional learning delivery.

Training delivery does not transfer ownership of the underlying standard, control of the assessment structure or authority to issue the IBQMI credential.

IBQMI remains the standards owner, assessment authority and credential issuer across the available learning routes.

One institutional authority across the system

The IBQMI certification model maintains one institutional line of responsibility from the underlying professional system to the issued credential.

IBQMI defines and maintains the standard or framework, governs the assessment requirements, issues the credential and operates the verification system.

This continuity allows the meaning of a credential to be traced back to the institution responsible for the complete professional system.

Digital accessibility allows professionals in different countries to participate without transferring the credentialing authority to separate local issuers.
