Canonical definition
Enterprise AI Integration is the controlled integration of AI capabilities into enterprise systems, workflows, data flows, controls, responsibilities and operating processes so that AI functions as part of the enterprise rather than as an isolated tool. AI Solution Architecture enables this integration by defining the structure, interfaces, dependencies, boundaries and controls of the AI-enabled solution.
Integration beyond an API
Connecting a model to an application interface is only one technical step. Enterprise integration also determines where data originates, how outputs are used, which systems may act, who reviews exceptions and what evidence is retained. The integration therefore spans technology, workflow and governance.
Workflow integration
AI capabilities may support or perform bounded steps within enterprise workflows, but the workflow must define inputs, outputs, handoffs, approvals, exceptions and failure paths. Integration is incomplete when the model output is technically available but operational responsibility remains undefined.
Data and system boundaries
Enterprise AI Integration defines which data and systems an AI capability may access and under which conditions. Access should reflect approved purpose, technical need, security boundaries and organizational authority rather than model capability alone.
Controls and accountability
Controls may limit model use, system actions, data access, escalation paths and output handling. Accountability remains assigned to defined human and institutional roles. Integration does not transfer organizational authority to the AI capability.
Relationship to AI-native enterprise architecture
AI-native enterprise architecture provides the wider enterprise context for organizations in which AI is structurally present. Enterprise AI Integration concerns the controlled incorporation of particular AI capabilities into that operating environment.
Governance context
AI-native enterprise architecture provides the governance context within which Enterprise AI Integration takes place. Where enterprise controls are connected to operation, Runtime Governance can constrain how AI-enabled systems behave without making AI itself the governance authority.
Professional system

What Enterprise AI Integration is not
Enterprise AI Integration is not simply model deployment, API connectivity, procurement of an AI product or unrestricted automation. It does not imply that every process should use AI, and it is not itself a credential.
