Canonical definition
The IBQMI® Lean Enterprise Architect® credential recognizes a professional who has satisfied the applicable requirements for AI-native, execution-oriented enterprise architecture under the IBQMI Lean Enterprise Architecture Standard.
The credential represents professional capability across architecture, organizational execution, runtime controls, machine-enforceable policies, continuous compliance and audit-ready evidence.
The institution responsible for the professional system, assessment, credential issuance and verification is International Business and Quality Management Institute LLC, publicly operating as IBQMI®.
Credential and standard
The Lean Enterprise Architect credential and the IBQMI® Lean Enterprise Architecture Standard are connected but distinct.
The standard defines the architecture system, its concepts, operating logic, boundaries and professional requirements.
The credential recognizes an individual who has completed the applicable professional pathway and satisfied its assessment and award requirements.
The standard does not itself certify an individual, and the credential does not replace the underlying standard.
The professional role
A Lean Enterprise Architect connects architectural intent to the systems, controls, policies and governance mechanisms through which the enterprise operates.
The role is execution-oriented. Architecture must remain connected to organizational behavior and operational conditions rather than existing only as diagrams, documents or periodic review outputs.
The professional role includes responsibility for maintaining traceability between defined architecture, applicable governance requirements, runtime behavior and the evidence produced by the operating environment.
Capability system represented by the credential
1. AI-native enterprise architecture
Architecture is designed for environments in which artificial intelligence is structurally present in systems, workflows and operating models.
2. Execution-first architecture
Architectural intent is connected to actual enterprise execution and operational controls.
3. Governance as Code
Governance rules, responsibilities and decision boundaries are expressed through controlled and testable operating mechanisms.
4. Policy as Code
Applicable portions of organizational policy are represented through machine-enforceable or machine-testable mechanisms where appropriate.
5. Runtime governance
Governance remains connected to active system behavior and operating conditions.
6. Continuous compliance
Compliance conditions are evaluated through ongoing controls, observations, policy tests and review processes.
7. Audit-ready evidence
Requirements, controls, observations and results are connected through traceable evidence suitable for review and assurance.
AI-native enterprise architecture
AI-native enterprise architecture begins from the assumption that artificial intelligence is part of the enterprise structure rather than an isolated feature added after the architecture has been defined.
The Lean Enterprise Architect must address the systems, data, interfaces, controls, responsibilities and evidence structures required when AI capabilities participate in enterprise execution.
AI-native does not mean that AI becomes the owner of architecture or an autonomous source of institutional authority.
Execution-first architecture
Execution-first architecture requires architectural principles and decisions to remain connected to the environment in which organizational work and system behavior occur.
The Lean Enterprise Architect therefore works across architecture, governance, delivery, controls and evidence rather than treating architecture documentation as the complete operating mechanism.
Documentation remains valuable, but it must remain traceable to actual execution.
Governance as Code and Policy as Code
Governance as Code expresses governance rules, responsibilities, controls and decision boundaries through operational and testable mechanisms.
Policy as Code represents defined portions of applicable policy in machine-enforceable or machine-testable form where appropriate.
Policy as Code is a mechanism within the wider Governance as Code system. It does not represent the entirety of governance.
The Lean Enterprise Architect must preserve the connection between institutional policy meaning and the technical mechanisms used to enforce or test it.
Runtime governance
Runtime governance connects governance requirements to systems while they are operating.
The Lean Enterprise Architect defines or governs the architectural conditions through which relevant controls, policies, boundaries and evidence requirements remain connected to active system behavior.
Runtime governance does not remove institutional review. It provides the operating layer through which governance can remain connected to execution.
Continuous compliance and audit-ready evidence
Continuous compliance treats compliance as an ongoing operating condition rather than only a periodic retrospective exercise.
Audit-ready evidence connects requirements, controls, observations and recorded results in a form suitable for controlled review and assurance.
The Lean Enterprise Architect must understand that continuous evaluation does not eliminate professional judgment and that audit-ready evidence does not automatically prove complete compliance.
Architecture documentation
The Lean Enterprise Architect credential does not represent the rejection of architecture documentation.
Documentation remains important for intent, explanation, architectural decisions, accountability, institutional memory and review.
The professional requirement is that documentation must not become disconnected from the systems, controls and governance mechanisms operating in practice.
Artificial intelligence and professional accountability
Artificial intelligence may support analysis, classification, generation, observation and other bounded professional capabilities.
The Lean Enterprise Architect credential does not authorize AI to become an autonomous institutional decision-maker.
Architectural authority, professional accountability, decision boundaries and authorization remain assigned to defined human and institutional roles.
Assessment and credential issuance
The credential is issued only after the applicable professional pathway and assessment requirements have been satisfied.
Course attendance, access to learning materials or training completion alone does not constitute certification.
The institutional relationship between learning, assessment, credential issuance and verification is governed through the IBQMI® certification model.
IBQMI remains the assessment authority and credential issuer.
Certification pathway and learning routes
The Lean Enterprise Architect credential is accessed through the relevant IBQMI certification pathway.
Learning and preparation may be provided directly by IBQMI or supported by authorized training partners.
Training delivery does not transfer ownership of the standard, assessment authority or credential issuance to the training provider.
Credential verification
An issued Lean Enterprise Architect credential remains connected to IBQMI through the official digital credential verification system.
Verification allows the presented credential or certificate record to be checked against records maintained by IBQMI as the issuing authority.
A certificate document alone is not the authoritative source of credential authenticity.
Institutional authority and standing
The credential forms part of the IBQMI® standards and frameworks system.
IBQMI remains responsible for the underlying standard, professional requirements, assessment, credential issuance and verification.
This controlled institutional line contributes to IBQMI®'s institutional standing.
Global accessibility
The Lean Enterprise Architect pathway is delivered through the globally accessible IBQMI certification system.
The same standards owner, assessment authority, credential issuer and verification system apply regardless of the country from which a candidate accesses the pathway.
Geographic accessibility does not divide the credential among separate local issuing authorities.
What the credential does not establish
The Lean Enterprise Architect credential recognizes an individual’s completion of the applicable professional requirements.
It does not independently certify that an entire organization conforms to the Lean Enterprise Architecture Standard.
It does not establish statutory licensing, government authorization, external accreditation or universal employer endorsement.
It also does not prove that every future architectural decision made by the credential holder will be correct or that every system associated with the holder is compliant.
Development and institutional continuity
The professional standard and credential pathway may develop as enterprise technologies, AI capabilities, governance requirements and operating practices change.
IBQMI has operated continuously since 2015 while retaining responsibility for its standards, assessments, credentials and verification infrastructure.
Development of the professional system does not transfer or interrupt the institutional authority behind the credential.
